Wisdom Wednesday: Ordinary or Extraordinary?

“When I come in contact with the occurrences of life as an ordinary human being, is the prayer of God's Eternal Son to His Father being prayed in me? Never let common sense obtrude and push the Son of God on one side. Common sense is a gift which God gave to human nature; but common sense is not the gift of His Son. Our ordinary wits never worship God unless they are transfigured by the indwelling Son of God. We have to see that this mortal flesh is kept in perfect subjection to Him and that He works through it moment by mo-ment. Are we living in such human dependence upon Jesus Christ that His life is being manifested moment by moment?“ ~ My Utmost for His Highest

I read this excerpt during my Bible reading a couple of mornings ago and have been meditating on it ever since. Is God and His character being lived out through my life, or am I simply responding to the occurrences of life as an ordinary human being? God has created us for more than the ordinary—we are His children. When we enter the family of God through salvation, we become extraordinary through Him. The Holy Spirit then resides within us. We are His temple! Wow. What a thought. I stand in awe of it all the time. How can we go about our day-to-day lives without a single thought of Him when He literally resides inside us?

If I accepted the Lord as my Savior, by believing He died for me, that means I have faith in Him. But after becoming a Christian, it can be easy to let that faith fall by the wayside as we are engulfed by the chaos of this world. I pray that we live this life as extraordinary people because the God of all creation—our Heavenly Father—is at work inside us if we will only allow Him to be. Let His work be “worked out” through you today. Keep the faith, live the faith, and let the world see how good our great God is because they see you shining for Him.
